Syriza leader Tsipras shuns Merkel

FXStreet (Mumbai) - Ahead of the elections on Sunday, the anti-bailout party leader Alexis Tsipras has come out with anti-EU statements this morning.

The leader said only his party can end Greece’s catastrophic course and that if elected, his government won’t honor commitments made by the previous government. Furthermore, he stated that negotiations could be with European peers, but not with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. He also called the ECB’s QE decision as “historic” turn from austerity to measures aimed at boosting growth.

Syriza leads in at least six polls (of between 4% and 10%). Tsipras anti-EU comments may rattle market nerves, thereby sending the EUR to further multi-year lows across the board.
