Consumer sentiment improving in Japan - Nomura

FXStreet (Barcelona) - The Research Team at Nomura notes that Japan’s consumer spending was weak in December but spreading positives in employment and other areas.

Key Quotes

“Private consumption in December appears to have been a little weak. Although the Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES) shows real consumption expenditure (excluding housing, etc) of households of two persons or more rising 0.3% m-m, real retail sales declined 0.2% m-m.”

“Indicators of consumer sentiment have been improving and we expect sentiment to be buoyed in the near term by benefits (particularly in the regions) from falling gasoline prices and, at the same time, by rising wages supported by the spring wage negotiations.”
