Analysts at Rabobank lists down the key economic releases and events for the week ahead and points out that for today, we have US retail sales to look to.

Key Quotes

“Tomorrow it’s the RBA minutes and Chinese house prices, then UK earnings data and US industrial production. However, the key highlight is the first of back-to-back semi-annual testimonies from Federal Reserve Chair Powell, who will be giving his outlook for the US and monetary policy as well as taking a Q&A from Congress.”

“We can be sure that he will be touching not just on the issue of unprecedented wage stagnation, but on the trade wars issue and shortening supply chains: what, if any, will those dual developments imply for a Fed that seems to be far from hawkish than the markets in terms of the future rates path?”

“Wednesday has this whole exercise repeated, alongside UK CPI, an EcoFin meeting, Eurozone CPI, US housing starts/building permits, and the Fed’s Beige Book.”

“Thursday sees Japanese trade data and Aussie jobs, UK retail sales, and the US Philly Fed, and then Friday shows us Japanese CPI and an OPEC meeting, Canadian retail sales, and a BoC CPI measure.”
